A Shift in the Stars: Mission Oncept Complete - Mission of Comfort Is A Go

This past Monday, Mission Commander Buster completed his fourth and final dose of the initial Oncept series. We went into the appointment holding onto every star in the sky, hoping for clear scans and a smooth path forward.

The initial news was encouraging: the radiographs and ultrasound showed that his lungs and major organs remain clear. However, the medical team discovered that the lymph node in his groin was enlarged. A fine needle aspiration and cytology were performed, and the results revealed the presence of cancer cells.

This news is devastating. It is the outcome we had all hoped and prayed we would not face.

While it is technically possible that this fourth dose of Oncept will be enough to push him into remission, the reality is that there simply isn't enough research on feline non-ocular melanocytic tumors to say for certain what will happen next. We are in uncharted territory.

After many tears and deep conversations, Jacob and I have made the decision to shift our focus. We are no longer fighting a battle we cannot predict; instead, we are embracing a Mission of Comfort.

Our sole priority now is ensuring the highest quality of life for Buster with whatever time we have left with him. We want his days to be filled with soft sunbeams, his favorite snacks, gentle purrs, and the constant, unwavering love of his Flight Crew. He has been so incredibly brave, and he deserves nothing less than peace and comfort in his own galaxy.

Continuing the Journey

Even as our mission changes, the financial reality of Buster's journey remains. The total cost of his life-saving treatments, surgeries, and specialized oncology care has reached $11,107.58.

We are keeping our donation channels open to help us cover these costs. Every "twinkle" contributed now helps us manage the financial weight of the care that gave Buster these precious extra months with us—months where he learned to climb the cat tower on three legs, bonded with Julius, and continued to be our Unwavering Light.

We cannot thank you enough for being part of Buster's crew. Your support, your messages, and your donations have carried us through the darkest parts of this journey.

Please continue to keep Buster in your thoughts as we navigate this new chapter. We will continue to share updates on his days of comfort and the quiet, beautiful moments he spends with his family.

With heavy but full hearts,

Erin, Jacob, Buster, Binx, Melody Malone, and Julius
